Herpes on lip is one of the most misunderstood herpes ailments. Often people confuse it with cold sores on lip and deem it as an ordinary lip disorder. This ailment is not just limited to lip but also includes eyelid, lips, palate, and jowls. It is also known as herpes labialis, simplex lipitis, lip rash, glossitis, or icthyosis. The symptoms of herpes on lip are not very distinct and can be confused with many other skin conditions.
Allergic reaction is the main cause of herpes on lip. When a person is allergic to a substance such as lip balm, cologne, lip liner, shaving cream, lip gloss, or lip stain then an extreme allergic reaction develops. This develops into a blisters, rashes, pus-filled pockets, and the cracking of the skin. All these are a result of the body’s defense system reacting to the offending substance. The herpes simplex virus is the causative agent for this condition and can be spread to other parts of the body through direct contact with the infected area.
The herpes simplex virus can also be transmitted through oral sex, anal sex, and virginal intercourse. It is also possible to develop an acute outbreak even without an apparent infection in the area. These types of outbreaks often have a burning sensation, itching, and tenderness that resembles a severe cold sore with red rashes. A persistent outbreak may produce fever blisters which will crust over and ooze liquid. If this type of fever blister goes untreated it can lead to serious complications such as gangrene.
A blister forms on the outer side of the lip which is then cracked and becomes filled with pus. The herpes labialis develops into a painful inflammation that can be painful and sometimes feels like a lump. The herpes simplex virus can be anywhere from two to nine millimeters in length although the length may vary from one person to the next. This is why it can be difficult to determine whether or not you have contracted herpes simplex on lip during sexual intercourse.
A sore that does not heal after seven days appears on the inside of the mouth. This is known as the cold sore and is caused by the herpes simplex virus 1. An outbreak may last up to fourteen days but in some cases it may go away on its own. There is no treatment for this condition but there are ways to control the symptoms. Some of these include drinking plenty of water, applying ice to the skin, avoiding sweet foods and staying away from people who are ill or infected.
There is no cure for the herpes virus. However, there are medications available that can help to relieve the discomfort. If you are infected with the herpes virus you should contact your doctor and work out an effective plan to eliminate your outbreak. When the herpesvirus is present in high amounts there is a good chance that it will spread to others so having sexual contact with an infected person is highly recommended. Even though it is relatively easy to contract hsv-1 it is still important to take precautions to avoid infecting others.
